The Bauchi State Government has suspended commercial activities in several cattle markets across four local government areas of Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi, and Tafawa Balewa LGAs, with immediate effect.
According to a press release signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Comrade Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, a total of 14 markets in Alkaleri, one in Bauchi, five in Kirfi, and five in Tafawa Balewa have been shut down.
The government explained that the suspension aims to curb security issues, including cattle rustling, killings, kidnapping, and extortion, linked to these markets.
The Governor approved the measure, citing significant economic losses and threats to community livelihoods, directing security agencies to enforce the order, which will remain in place until further notice.
The press release enjoined local authorities and traditional leaders to sensitize the public and monitor implementation.
