By Najeeb Sani

The former governor of Bauchi State and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Bauchi State, in the 2027 election, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN), has congratulated the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Bauchi State Branch, on the successful conduct of its election of new executive officers.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the governorship candidate described "the peaceful election" held on Saturday as proof of the association’s professionalism, unity and commitment to democratic values.

Abubakar felicitated with the newly elected executive council led by Dr. Kabir Abdullahi as Chairman and other officers who include Dr. Bello Ibrahim, Dr. Nur Gazali, Dr. Gabi Umar, Dr. Suleiman Aminu Tukur, Dr. Ya’u Julde and Dr. Auwal Konkiyel.

He urged the new leadership to uphold medical ethics, prioritise members’ welfare and strengthen collaboration with government and stakeholders to improve healthcare delivery across the state.

Reflecting on his administration from 2015 to 2019, Abubakar said his government supported the medical profession through several interventions including the donation of an 18-seater bus to the NMA, allocation of land for the association’s permanent secretariat and the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, for medical personnel in the state.

The APC flagbearer reaffirmed his commitment to revitalising Bauchi’s health sector if elected in 2027.

He pledged to renovate and upgrade primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the 20 LGAs, provide emergency ambulances for faster response and install solar-powered systems in critical hospital units to ensure uninterrupted services.

Additionally, M.A Abubakar pledged to improve recruitment and retention of health workers through better staff accommodation, enhanced hazard and rural posting allowances and comprehensive medical insurance.

“With sustained collaboration between government, the NMA under Dr. Kabir Abdullahi, healthcare professionals and development partners, we can strengthen Bauchi’s health system and accelerate access to resilient, affordable and quality healthcare for our people,” Abubakar stated.

He wished the new NMA executive a successful tenure and called on them to continue promoting excellence, professionalism and unity in advancing healthcare delivery in Bauchi State.
