A group within the All Progressives Congress, APC Solidarity Group has petitioned the national and the state chairmen of the party against admitting the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed into the party.
The group also listed 10 reasons of which majorly bothering on the governor’s past comments and criticism against the Federal government and its policies.
The Secretary of the group, Abubakar Abdullahi while addressing the press on Friday, said that the group has resolved to reject Mohammed's planned defection to APC because of his; “Persistent public criticism against APC and President Bola Tinubu, declining public goodwill, existing rivalries with Mal. Isa Yuguda, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Hon. Yusuf MaitamaTuggar, and Senator Shehu Buba Umar, among others.
“Trust concerns, risk of internal instability, disconnect with electorate, ideological inconsistency, impact on party morale and strategic electoral risk,” according to him were the reasons.
He said the development called for “serious caution” on the part of the party. Adding that, a political party should be a home to all, but “in Bauchi State, we have reached a point where we have to be careful not to do anything that will erode the momentum we have built.”
He warned that the party must avoid actions which could undermine its unity and weaken the collective efforts in bid to reclaim the state in the 2027 general elections.
Governor Bala Mohammed has not publicly declared his intention to move to the ruling APC after the crisis that rocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mohammed, the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, had hinted that he was considering the African Democratic Congress (ADC) but there are indications suggesting that the Governor might be thinking towards APC, after the leadership crisis in the ADC.
