...Gov Mohammed urges fervent prayers to reclaim Nigeria

The North-East Zone of Nigeria Prays on Sunday organised a one-day National Prayer Rally in Bauchi with the theme: “Awake, Awake O Army of the Lord” drawn from Isaiah 51:9.

The rally, held at COCIN Church, Kagadama in Yelwa, brought together Christians from the six North-East states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe. Leaders of Nigeria Prays, led by former Military Head of State and elder statesman, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), who was represented at the event, also attended.

Speaking at the rally, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, commended General Gowon for dedicating over 30 years to traversing the country to lead prayer sessions for Nigeria’s peace and unity.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Christian Affairs, Pastor (Dr) Luka Zakka Magaji, the governor described Gowon as “our father, mentor and a man God has used to keep Nigeria as one through the vision of Nigeria Prays.”

Governor Mohammed expressed appreciation to the Christian community for turning out en masse to pray for Nigeria, the North-East sub-region and Bauchi State. He noted that his administration emerged through prayers and remains anchored on faith.

Quoting the scripture that “when the righteous rule, the people rejoice,” the governor said Bauchi citizens can attest to the achievements of his administration.

He described the rally as timely, especially as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections. According to him, party primaries are expected to commence in 2026, with elections likely to hold towards the end of 2026 or early 2027.

“We cannot reclaim Nigeria until we have righteous leaders at all levels,” he said, urging continuous prayers for credible, upright and service-oriented leadership.

He stressed that the prayers were not directed against anyone but aimed at asking God to expose wickedness, end oppression and promote unity across the country.

Also speaking, the Governor’s Political Aide, Pastor Luka Zakka Magaji, praised the governor’s leadership, describing him as a man who governs without discrimination and with the fear of God. He highlighted the administration’s support for both Christian and Muslim communities, including the construction of worship centres and a befitting CAN Secretariat.

Earlier, the National Secretary of Nigeria Prays, Evan Austin R. Kemie, said the initiative seeks to sustain Nigeria’s unity through prayer and divine intervention, particularly in the North-East region that has experienced insurgency and destruction of lives and property.

Similarly, the Bauchi State Coordinator of Nigeria Prays, Rev. Samaila Boro, commended Christians for their massive turnout, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to national peace and spiritual revival.

The rally featured prayer sessions for Nigeria, the North-East, Bauchi State and leaders at all levels, alongside praise and worship sessions led by various choirs.
