The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar, has flagged off the distribution of 18,200 bags of rice to constituents and other parts of Bauchi State to cushion the effects of the Ramadan fast.
The distribution covers all local government areas within Bauchi South Senatorial District which include Bauchi local government area will receive 2,000 bags; Toro local 1,500 bags; Alkaleri 1,200 bags; Tafawa Balewa 1,000 bags; Kirfi local government area will get 700 bags; Dass LGA 700 bags; and Bogoro will receive 300 bags.
Beyond his constituency, the senator allocated 3,500 bags to Bauchi North and 3,000 bags to Bauchi Central, while the remaining bags will be distributed to APC leaders, some of organizations, and other stakeholders across the state.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Senator Shehu Buba Umar said the initiative was aimed at supporting Muslims observing this year's Ramadan fast and easing the hardship faced by families, especially during the holy month.
He thanked God for granting him the opportunity to fulfil one of his responsibilities as an elected representative, noting that the gesture was not the first of its kind.
"Time and again, we strive to provide support that will help our people alleviate the hardships of life, particularly during this sacred month when food is essential," he said.
The senator also expressed confidence in the committee overseeing the distribution and urged its members to ensure fairness, transparency, and honesty so that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.
Chairman of the Distribution Committee, Abdulkadir Lawal Gyengyen, commended the senator for the timely intervention. He described Senator Buba as one of the few lawmakers deeply committed to the welfare of his constituents, irrespective of political affiliation.
Gyengyen assured that the committee would ensure equitable distribution of the food items and prevent any form of diversion.
“We will ensure justice in the distribution process and make sure that those entrusted with delivering the items do not divert them for personal gain," he said, urging all those involved to act with integrity and fear of God.
Also speaking at the event, Muhammad Sade expressed gratitude for what he described as quality representation at the Senate, commending the senator for his continued support to the people of Bauchi South and the state at large.
