The Bauchi State Police Command has said that not less than seven bandits were killed in gun battle with the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Gwana District of Alkaleri area of the state. Two soldiers and one vigilante have also lost their lives to the incident.
The Spokesman of the Command, SP Nafiu Habib in a statement Monday said that the Command reported a bandit attack on the community on Sunday at about 4:32pm.
Habib said that as a result of the attack, two soldiers attached to 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi and a vigilante paid the supreme price during the encounter. “Three members of the affected community were also abducted and about seven bandits were neutralised by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police (AKU) during the gun duel.”
He said that more security forces have been deployed to restore order, protect displaced civilians, and prevent further attacks.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, pledged that monitoring and intelligence gathering are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing assailants and rescue victims.
