Teachers’ lateness, absenteeism in Katagum worry SUBEB

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) monitoring and evaluation team has expressed concern over widespread teacher absenteeism and lateness in Katagum Local Government Area.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Isah Mohammed Jungudo on Thursday, said during a recent visit to schools, led by the Director Quality Assurance of the SUBEB, Mal. Abbas Abdulmumini, the team found 90% of teachers absent at some schools, especially Ahmed Turaki primary school.

Mal. Abdulmumini emphasized the need for stakeholders to ensure schools operate effectively, urging parents to prioritize their children's education.

He therefore urged parents to also give more emphasis to the education of their children by always sending them to school on time.

On his part, SUBEB Director Schools Services, Malam Zuhairu Usman, reminded teachers of their role in shaping the future of education, calling for improved performance.

He further reminded teachers of their role as leaders of education facilitation and dissemination in the communities they are serving.

The director called on the educators to change for the better so as to have a reasonable and responsible society in future.

Responding, the Katagum Local Education Authority Secretary, Malam Mukhtari Habu, welcomed the monitoring team's visit, saying it would bring positive changes in the education sector.

He urged teachers and education officials to redouble efforts to achieve quality basic education.

According to the press release, schools visited include upper Basic primary and secondary school Matsango, Ahmed Turaki primary school, Umar Faruq primary school and Hassan Tagwai Central science primary school Azare.
