'Women constitute powerful, decisive force in electoral process, deserve more attention'

By Rauf Oyewole

Governorship Aspirant in Bauchi State, Barr. Ibrahim Kashim has described Nigerian women as a powerful and decisive force in the Nation's electoral process and advocated for more welfare and respect for their rights to achieve required development.

Kashim in a statement on Sunday, marking the 2026 International Women's Day, said women carry strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions in the development of Bauchi State and across Nigeria.

Kashim, former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government and a governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, said that women played remarkable roles in shaping communities and driving the development of the nation.

“From the farms to the markets, from the classrooms to public service, and within the homes where values are nurtured, women continue to serve as pillars of progress, stability, and moral guidance. Their sacrifices and dedication remain fundamental to the growth and prosperity of our society.

“As we celebrate their achievements, it is also important to recognize the crucial role women will play in shaping the future of our democracy, especially as we approach the 2027 elections. Women constitute a powerful and decisive force in our electoral process.

“I therefore urge our women to remain steadfast in defending the integrity of our democracy by refusing the temptation to sell their votes. Instead, let us support and vote for leaders who are competent, people-oriented, and genuinely committed to the welfare and progress of our communities.

Kashim said that the power of the ballot is a sacred trust, and when exercised wisely, it becomes a powerful tool for building a just and prosperous society. “Throughout my life, I have firmly believed in these ideals—integrity in leadership, service to the people, and the empowerment of our communities, particularly our women.

“I remain deeply committed to a future where women are not only celebrated for their contributions but are also fully supported to thrive and lead in every sphere of life. On this International Women’s Day, I salute the women of Bauchi State and Nigeria and encourage them to continue standing as champions of progress, dignity, and responsible citizenship for the benefit of present and future generations,” he said.
