YAHIC launches moringa empowerment project for women in Bauchi

By Ahmed Ahmed

The Youth Adolescent Health Initiative and Counselling (YAHIC) has commenced a year-long women empowerment project targeting 90 beneficiaries across three communities in Bauchi State.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday in Bauchi, Project Officer, Mr. Tameshiya Titus, said the beneficiaries were selected from Gudum Hausawa, Badel Dass LGA, and Miri communities.

He explained that the initiative, supported by the French Embassy Fund for Civil Society Organizations (FEF-OSC), focuses on strengthening women’s capacity in moringa production and processing.

According to him, the project will economically empower 90 women, including 15 women with disabilities, through training in moringa cultivation, processing, branding and marketing.

He noted that the intervention is designed to address poverty, malnutrition, gender inequality and climate vulnerability by leveraging the nutritional and economic value of moringa to promote sustainable livelihoods and resilience.

Titus said key components of the project include agricultural training, installation of solar-powered greenhouses, establishment of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), gender-based violence awareness campaigns and facilitation of market linkages.

He added that YAHIC had set up a Technical Working Group in collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministries of Agriculture and Women Affairs to ensure women are adequately represented in agricultural policies and protected within the moringa value chain.

The project, running from July 2025 to June 2026, is also expected to benefit about 450 indirect beneficiaries while advancing gender-sensitive policy reforms.
