The Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Umar Buba has called on the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirants and other politicians vying for different positions and their supporters to demonstrate a high level of discipline and eschew politics of bitterness, rancor and acrimony ahead of the 2027 general election in Bauchi State.
Senator Buba who made the plea through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Comrade Sabo Mohammed, while briefing journalists in Bauchi, lamented that while stakeholders and leaders of APC were busy putting heads together to ensure unity of the party, some unscrupulous elements are working to explore divisive means to cause disharmony.
The lawmaker said his attention had been drawn to a plot by ambitious APC gubernatorial aspirants in state who recruited some media practitioners and influencers and held a meeting in Abuja with them to engage in a smear campaign across conventional and social media platforms to tarnish his image.
"No amount of media attacks, political blackmail or campaign of calumny would deter my governorship ambition in Bauchi.
Buba said that he had also chosen not to respond to what he termed unprovoked media attacks directed at his person or political career with a view to scuttle his gubernatorial ambition, adding that he had chosen not to disclose the ungodly plans due to Ramadan fasting and not to bring out issues that could disrupt the smooth conduct of the just concluded party congress in the state.
He further explained that his decision to reveal the plot was to draw the attention of the leadership of the party and the sponsor in order to rescind the evil mission and embrace sportsmanship because a good politician is not afraid to contest or compete with fellow aspirants.
Buba said, "When our political gladiators follow the will of God and eschew politics of bitterness, rancor and acrimony in their campaigns, their followers will follow suit
He continued, "We must look into the future with sportsmanship and decorum. All anger and bitterness must be put aside. We can actually politic as friends realising that only God gives power to whom He wants."
The Senator advised the leadership of the APC in Bauchi to strengthen its discipline committee to uphold relevant laws and guidelines as well as monitor the media activities of all aspirants and sanctioned offenders at appropriate time no matter their positions in the party.
