The Bauchi State Government has urged students to embrace democratic values and deepen their understanding of the legislative process as part of efforts to prepare them for responsible citizenship.
The government made the call at a National Quiz Competition organised for Senior Secondary School students on legislation and democracy, where selected schools in the state participated.
Representing the Bauchi State Commissioner at the event, the director's quality assurance, Hassan Sulaiman encouraged the participants to see the competition as an opportunity to acquire knowledge and demonstrate their understanding of democratic principles.
He urged the students to listen carefully to the questions, provide accurate answers and represent their respective schools with commitment.
According to him, while competitions naturally produce winners and losers, the primary objective should be learning, participation and gaining useful knowledge.
The competition, now in its 11th edition, seeks to promote civic awareness and deepen students’ understanding of legislation, democracy and governance.
Participating schools included Dolphin Maria School, Dagu Senior Secondary School Warji, Iqamatun Sunnah Gamawa, Government Girls Arabic College Alkaleri, Day Secondary School, Madara and Day Secondary School Dagauda.
The initiative is associated with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), led by its Director-General, Prof. Abubakar O. Sulaiman.
