The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa'u Haruna, for allegedly killing her co-wife in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, following a domestic dispute between the two co-wives residing in the same household.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said the C-Division, Bauchi, received credible information about the incident at about 4:05 p.m. on Saturday.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, said to be acting under hallucinations, allegedly struck the first wife, Jamila Adamu, 43, on the forehead with a pestle, leaving her unconscious.
Habib said detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene, documented it, and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
He said the suspect has been arrested and the pestle recovered as exhibit.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
The CP condoled with the bereaved family, cautioned the public against domestic violence and advised families to seek timely medical and psycho-social support for members exhibiting mental health challenges.
