NAF reinforces combat readiness as SOC completes 2026 route March exercise

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Operations Command (SOC), headquartered in Bauchi State, has successfully concluded its 2026 Second Quarter Route March Exercise, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to combat readiness, physical fitness, and operational efficiency.

The Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Special Operations Command, AVM Ahmed Idris, stated that the exercise remains a key component of the Air Force training calendar, designed to enhance endurance, mental resilience, and battlefield preparedness of officers, airmen, and airwomen in line with the constitutional mandate of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Represented by the Chief of Staff to the AOC, AVM Solomon Lazarus, he commended personnel for their discipline, determination, and professionalism throughout the demanding physical exercise, noting that their performance reflects the Service’s sustained drive to maintain a highly motivated and combat-ready force.

He explained that the road march is not only a test of stamina but also a strategic tool for improving operational effectiveness, 

“Particularly in ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, as well as efforts to combat kidnapping, cattle rustling, cultism, and other security threats across the country.

The AOC further reaffirmed the Air Force’s readiness to continue collaborating with other security agencies to ensure peace and stability across all operational environments nationwide.

Appreciation was extended to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, for his continued support, logistics provision, and commitment to personnel welfare and training, which contributed significantly to the success of the exercise.

Participants were urged to sustain fitness culture beyond the exercise period through regular physical training, with emphasis that sustained fitness remains vital for operational efficiency and combat readiness at all times. The exercise ended with commendations and renewed dedication to national service.
