Bauchi Honours AUPCTRE General Secretary Over Appointment

By Ahmad Saka

The Bauchi State Government has honoured Comrade Aliyu Mohammed following his appointment as the General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).

The reception, hosted by Governor Bala Mohammed and organised by the Office of the Special Adviser on Labour Matters, celebrated Comrade Aliyu's achievement and his distinguished service to the labour movement.

The event brought together labour leaders, civil servants, and government officials, who described the appointment as a significant achievement for both Bauchi State and the Nigerian labour movement.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Labour Matters, Comrade Usman Danturaki, said the honour was in recognition of Comrade Aliyu Mohammed's years of dedication and commitment to workers' welfare.

Danturaki noted that Comrade Aliyu is only the second person from Bauchi State to attain such a high-ranking position in the labour movement, after Comrade Abdullahi Shehu, who was appointed General Secretary of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) in the 1980s.

He described the appointment as a reflection of Comrade Aliyu's competence, hard work, and contributions to organised labour at both state and national levels.

According to him, Aliyu's emergence as AUPCTRE General Secretary is a source of pride for Bauchi State and evidence of the quality leadership the state's labour movement continues to produce.

Danturaki also acknowledged the contributions of labour veterans whose mentorship, he said, had strengthened the labour movement over the years.

He congratulated the new General Secretary and urged him to continue projecting the image of Bauchi State positively while discharging his new responsibilities.

The Special Adviser further commended the cordial relationship between the state government and labour unions, noting that Bauchi State had not witnessed any industrial action since 2019. He attributed this development to Governor Bala Mohammed's efforts to improve workers' welfare and maintain open dialogue with organised labour.

According to him, the harmonious relationship between government and labour has contributed significantly to stability and productivity within the public service.

Also speaking, the Head of Civil Service, Barrister Mohammed Sani Umar, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Barrister Dawood Mahmoud, expressed confidence in Comrade Aliyu's ability to succeed in his new role and advance workers' interests nationwide.

The National President of AUPCTRE, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, praised Aliyu for his exemplary service to the union.

He said Aliyu had served AUPCTRE with distinction and earned the admiration of many through his humility, dedication, and exemplary leadership.

"We have worked together for more than a decade, and he has consistently demonstrated leadership qualities and integrity. He has proven himself capable of handling positions of responsibility that positively impact people's lives," Anthony said.

He added that Aliyu's appointment as General Secretary was not only a testament to the confidence reposed in him but also an opportunity to bring positive change to workers and the country at large.

Anthony explained that AUPCTRE has a tradition of mentoring future leaders and noted that Aliyu rose through the ranks of the union, serving in various capacities, including Head of the Finance and Accounts Department, before his appointment.

He expressed confidence that Aliyu would justify the trust placed in him.

In his remarks, Comrade Aliyu Mohammed expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed, the state government, the Office of the Head of Civil Service, and labour unions for the honour accorded him.

He pledged to remain a worthy ambassador of Bauchi State at the national level.

"Bauchi is my root. I started my journey here, and I will always count on the support and prayers of my people to succeed," he said.
