Rotary Club provides medical outreach to Bauchi community


The Rotary Club of Bauchi Central has taken medical care to residents of Inkil community in Bauchi metropolis to reduce the burden of medical expenses. 

The services provided by the Club include; blood pressure check, provision of eye glasses, antenatal care, deworming, sugar test, routine vaccinations, malaria tests and drugs at no cost.

The Rotary President, Bauchi Central, Rotarian Adeyemi Adekunle, said that Rotary as a humanitarian organisation, is concerned about public health and welfare of the people across the world. According to him, health services is one of the key areas of Rotary priority. 

Adekunle added that the Club has been providing interventions in areas of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), polio eradication. “We are doing this here like other places we have been to and we have our medical experts on ground. We have brought medications and we are going to refer some special cases to the hospital. 

“We are going to attend to about 80 to 90 people who are having eye problems and we brought 50 eye glasses because we know that not all of them will need glasses,” he said.

The community leader of Inkil, Alh. Sani Abdullahi, commended the Club for supporting his subjects and care for their health. According to him, “anyone who cares about you, particularly your health, is seen as a family. We are glad that Rotary is doing this to reduce the burden from our people.”

Also speaking, Taiwo Adeola Oluwaseun, Executive Director of Shen Initiative for Pregnant Women and Out-of-school Children, said that her organisation is partnering with the Club to care for pregnant women who might have not been to hospital for antenatal care and other maternal care.

One of the beneficiaries, Ahmad Abubakar, who benefited from eyeglasses commended the Club for aiding his sight. “I have been having a challenge in buying a new glass for some months and that has limited me from going to some places without glasses but Alhamdulillah I can see clearly to move around now.”
