The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has rushed to meet the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed who has just announced his plan to defect to African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Nentawe was accompanied by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and held a closed-door meeting with Bala Mohammed.
The meeting came 24 hours after the national leadership of ADC visited to woo the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum who said that ADC is “more viable” opposition as the APC initially rejected him.
Both Mohammed and Nentawe snubbed the press.
Mohammed while speaking yesterday said the National Chairman of ADC, Sen. David Mark “has asked them to come to me, to reconnect to me with the umbilical cord of the opposition, the one that I have always been. I said to him as a leader of the PDP, I also discovered that there is still some bitterness while our party is headless.
“Of course I have pursued all avenues for reconciliation, but it has not worked. And our people are putting me under extreme pressure. We have set up two committees, one in Abuja at the national level because of my position as a leader of the party on the other side, and one here to look at where to go. We left all our options on the ground, including the ADC itself.”
He said that sadly, he and his supporters have discovered that they cannot be where they are wanted. “We have to find a place within the opposition. That's where our faith and positive destiny will take us to. And ADC happens to be very and vibrant, and of course, a more acceptable platform.
Mohammed said his position at the national level as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, is one of the reasons the discussion has been long. “We have told them we are amenable to joining them (APC) in certain sets of conditions.”
