Mother of Former Bauchi Governor Mu’azu Buried in Medina

The mother of former Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabi’u, who died last Saturday at the age of 92, has been buried in Medina, Saudi Arabia, according to Islamic rites.

Her death was officially announced by her grandson, Ahmed Ahmadu Mu’azu Junior, after a protracted illness.

In a statement, Mu’azu Junior said, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un” (Verily we belong to Allah, and truly to Him shall we return). He added, “It is with gratitude to Almighty Allah and a deep sense of emotional burden that the family of His Excellency, (Dr.) Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu (Walin Bauchi), former Governor of Bauchi State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wishes to announce the death of his mother, Hajiya Halima Sulaiman Rabi’u.

“The sad but inevitable death occurred on 1st November 2025, equivalent to 10th Jumada Al-Awwal 1447 AH, after a brief illness at the age of 92. She passed away at the Saudi-German Hospital, Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and has since been buried there in accordance with Islamic tradition.”

The statement further said that Hajiya Halima is survived by a son, grandchildren, and many relatives. “It is our prayer that her soul rests in perfect peace and that Allah grants her Al-Jannatul Firdaus as her final abode,” it added.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed paid a condolence visit to Ahmadu Mu’azu at his residence upon his return from Saudi Arabia, where he attended the funeral prayers for his late mother.

The Governor was accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising the Deputy Governor, commissioners, and other senior government officials.

Governor Bala described the late Hajiya Halima as a virtuous and exemplary mother who instilled strong moral values and discipline in her children, qualities reflected in the life and leadership of Alhaji Mu’azu. In his response, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu expressed deep appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed and his entourage for their visit and show of solidarity during his moment of grief.

Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State described the death of Hajiya Halima, fondly called “Mama,” as a significant loss to both her family and the wider community.

In a statement signed by Dr. Dayyabu Chiroma, Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party said, “The PDP joins the family and, in particular, His Excellency Dr. Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, in offering condolences and prayers during this difficult time. May the Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgive her shortcomings and grant her Al-Jannatul Firdaus.”

Meanwhile, people from all walks of life including politicians, clerics, business moguls, journalists, and members of labour unions have continued to troop to the residence of the former governor to offer their condolences.
