Dangote Cement Transport Deepens Community Engagement in Sustainability Drive

The 2025 Sustainability Week celebration at Dangote Cement Transport Obajana (DCT) continued in grand style with a lecture and award presentation ceremony reaffirming the organization’s commitment to sustainability, education, and community development.

In his opening remarks, the Divisional Director of Transport, Obajana, Col. Hemant Rana (Rtd), represented by the Head of PTI, Mr. Charles Theophilus, commended the organizers and participants for their dedication to promoting sustainability through inclusive community engagement.

He noted that sustainable growth is not just a corporate obligation but a shared vision between Dangote Cement and its host communities.

Guest speakers from the Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry also enlightened participants on how sustainable business practices enhance profitability, resilience, and positive community impact.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of trophies and prizes to winners of the Inter-Schools Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition, which featured four public and six private secondary schools from the four host communities.

Excellent Future Leaders International School emerged overall winner of the Quiz Competition, while Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, clinched the top position in the Spelling Bee Contest.

The trophies were presented by the Divisional Director of Transport, represented by the Head of Operations, Mr. Abdullahi Aliyu, who praised the students for their brilliance, discipline, and teamwork.

Speaking at the event, the Head of Human Asset Management (Admin/HR), Mr. Peter Agba, lauded both private and public schools for their participation, reaffirming the company’s commitment to community engagement.

“At Dangote Cement Transport, we are committed to bringing smiles to the faces of our host communities in diverse ways,” he said.

Special recognition awards were also presented to staff for outstanding service and volunteerism.

Mr. Emmanuel Yashim was named Outstanding Male Volunteer of the Year (2024–2025), Mrs. Oluwasola John received the Outstanding Female Volunteer of the Year (2024–2025) award, while Mr. Charles Theophilus was honoured with a Meritorious Service Award Plaque for exemplary leadership as Chairman of the Planning Committee.

In his closing remarks, the Acting Sustainability Lead, Mr. Eseyin Temitope James, expressed appreciation to the Dangote Group management for its forward-thinking sustainability initiatives and continued support for community development.

He said the Sustainability Week reflects Dangote Cement’s broader mission to build prosperity through responsible practices that empower people, protect the environment, and promote lasting partnerships.

The event ended with renewed enthusiasm among staff, students, and community representatives as Dangote Cement Transport Obajana continues to lead by example in championing sustainability and growth across its operations and host communities.
