CIGF strengthens access to justice for women and girls through family court roundtable

CHILD is GOLD Foundation (CIGF), through its Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Project, has organised a roundtable discussion to strengthen access to justice for women, girls and other vulnerable persons in Bauchi State.

The engagement focused on the newly established Family Court in the state and brought together 40 participants, comprising 29 women and 11 men, including representatives of key government institutions, civil society organisations and other relevant actors.

The Chief Judge of the Family Court, Her Worship Amina Garuba, who served as a key resource person at the meeting, provided participants with detailed information on the mandate and operations of the court. She also explained the categories of cases handled by the Family Court, its sitting days and other relevant procedures for accessing justice.

Participants included representatives of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), NAPTIP, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ministry of Justice, and other Civil Society Organisations.

The roundtable provided an important platform for participants to deepen their understanding of the Family Court and its role in addressing issues affecting women and children, particularly cases involving gender-based violence, child protection and other forms of vulnerability.

The engagement also promoted knowledge-sharing and strengthened collaboration among relevant institutions and organisations working to advance justice, protect human rights and improve referral pathways for survivors of violence.

Speaking on the importance of the engagement, CIGF emphasised its continued commitment to promoting women’s and children’s rights, gender equality, protection from violence and access to justice across Bauchi State.

The organisation noted that strengthening coordination and knowledge among justice-sector actors and civil society organisations remains critical to ensuring that women, girls and other vulnerable persons can access appropriate support and justice when their rights are violated.

The roundtable forms part of CIGF’s broader efforts under the RWVL Project to amplify women’s voices, strengthen community-level responses to gender-based violence and promote an enabling environment where women and girls can exercise their rights and access justice.
