New Emir of Duguri vows to promote peace, education, health

The pioneer Emir of the newly created Duguri emirate, Alh Adamu Mohammed Duguri, has vowed to promote peace, education, health and uphold the culture and values.

The newly appointed Emir is an elder brother to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Duguri, popularly known as ‘Yaya Adamu’ is a retired Assistant Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). 

He was District Head in the area before being elevated to first class Emir of Duguri on Friday. His emergence followed a recent announcement by Governor Bala Mohammed after signing a bill creating an additional 13 emirates and chiefdom. 

Gov Mohammed while speaking after signing the bill on Tuesday, listed the new emirates to include; Burra, Dambam, Darazo, Duguri, Gamawa, Giade, Toro, Warji, Lere, Jama'a, Lame, Ari, Bununu and Zaar Chiefdom.

He said that he created the emirates to: “address perceived injustices and foster unity among diverse groups; recognise cultural heritage and promote inclusivity; and blend traditional leadership with modern governance so that the institution remains a relevant partner in development, peace, and progress.

“To increase revenue generation at the local level which will be used for developmental projects in those local communities. To enhance and improve our data collection and indices, which are critical in determining the amount that is allocated to states and local governments in the allocation of resources and intervention by Donors and International Organizations.  

“This reform is not an act of politics, but of policy; not a reward for loyalty, but a recognition of merit and necessity,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo who led the Chief of Staff, Aminu Gamawa and other top government officials to present the appointment letter to the Emir, said that the appointment became necessary following the yearning of the people.

Hammayo reminded the new Emir to uphold justice, truth, and fairness while promoting peace and unity in his domain. He expressed confidence that under Emir Duguri’s rulership, the new emirate would experience greater progress and stability.

He added that the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as vital partners in community development and grassroots governance.

While responding, the new Emir commended the Governor for his foresight to give a sense of belonging to every part of the state, and lauded the State House of Assembly for its thorough job. 

Duguri vowed to advance education through enrollment of children and promotion of good health among his subjects. He also pledged to promote peace and tranquility.

The Monarch is the current Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and has been championing enrolment and quality education to tackle the menace of out-of-school children.
