The Bauchi State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, and development partners, commemorated the International Day of Adolescent Health Week on October 13, 2020.
The event being organized under the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board highlighted the importance of adolescent health and the need for continued investment in their well-being.
Speaking at the event the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam emphasized the importance of adolescent health and the need for quality health information and services.
Dr Dambam was represented by the Chairman Bauchi State State Primary HealthCare Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed disclosed that the state will introduce the Measles-Rubella vaccine on October 18, 2025, targeting children and adolescents aged 9 months to 14 years.
The Commissioner urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to encourage adolescents to get vaccinated.
The event also highlighted the state's efforts to address violence against adolescents and gender-based violence, including the implementation of the VAPP Law and establishment of gender desks and safe spaces.
Dr. Dambam however stressed that investing in adolescent health is crucial for the state's economic development and prosperity. He used the medium and called on stakeholders to work together to create an environment that supports adolescents' health, education, and empowerment.
Also speaking, the director Primary HealthCare, Dr Ahmed Jibrin said youth empowerment is key to bright future and urged young people to strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
He highlighted the achievements of the ECS, a group of young individuals who had emerged as the best in the world in an English competition in Europe.
He expressed pride in the youth's accomplishments and encouraged the government to do more to support their endeavors. Emphasizing the importance of education, he urged students to work hard and achieve good results in their exams, such as the GCE SSE.
The commemoration aimed to raise awareness about adolescent health issues and promote healthy lifestyles among young people in Bauchi State.
In his remarks, the speaker invited the adolescents to take an active role in shaping their future and making meaningful contributions to society. He concluded by thanking the audience and encouraging everyone to get ready for a walk to commemorate the occasion.
