DEC, Care Nigeria train Dass women on food security


A non-governmental organisation, Development Exchange Center (DEC), has trained women groups on food security, nutrition and gender equity from three wards of Dass local government council.

The training was funded by CASCADE and CARE International. Speaking, Ms Anne Bot, Gender and Technical officer of CASCADE project said that over 15 women groups.

She said that the training was conducted on the platform 15 Village Savings and Loan Groups (VSL).

According to her the beneficiaries were expected to step down knowledge acquired to women to ensure grassroot engagement.

"As we graduate the 145 women from 15 groups in Dass local government. We expect to sustain all information and skill learnt and also step down to all and sundry.

"This project is tagged "Social Analysis and Action (SAA) is conducted on weekly sessions to improve nutrition, food security, and gender equity for women and children.

"The SAA sessions aimed to challenge harmful norms by fostering dialogue, promoting healthy practices like exclusive breastfeeding, and empowering women to take action for their communities," she said.

Earlier, Mr Samila Haruna, Chairman,Ward Development Committee(WDC) in Daas said that the training would change some of the narrative on issues around Nutrition and Gender.

He encouraged women as custodians of the homes to promote peace and best practices in their respective communities.

Mrs Aisha Musa, a beneficiary, pledged that more groups would be equipped with the information learnt from the sessions.

Highlights of the occasions were presentations of dance drama by women and food presentations.
