The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,600 corps members of the 2026 Batch B Stream II deployed to the state for the one year compulsory exercise.
Speaking before the swearing-in exercise on Friday, Mr Umoren Kufre, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NYSC, said that the orientation course is designed to prepare Corps Members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges they may encounter during the period of National Service.
He highlighted some of the activities lined up for the exercise to include para-military drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical training, lectures, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training amongst others.
The state Coordinator urged the corps members to obey all the rules and regulations governing the orientation camp.
“In case you notice any irregularity, do not take the laws into your hands; always ensure that you follow the proper channel of communication to express your grievances.
“Let me assure you again that management will ensure that the basic amenities you need in the camp are provided for you. Your safety and comfort remain our utmost priority,” he said.
He further appreciated Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state for his continuous support to the scheme in the State, adding that the complete renovation corps members hostels and the construction of new Multipurpose hall would be forever appreciated.
Kufre also commended the governor for prioritizing the welfare and security of the corps members in the state.
In his speech, Gov. Bala Mohammed who was represented by the Bauchi Head of Service, Mohammed Umar, called on the corps members to take the lead and advocate for national development and transformation.
The governor urged them to take the noble call with utmost seriousness and commit themselves to achieving the scheme's objective of national unity and development.
“I encourage you to start contemplating the initiation of meaningful Community Development Service projects in your areas of primary assignment right from the camp.
“I believe this should occupy your thoughts and prevent you from engaging in inappropriate behaviors while in camp and during your service,” said the governor.
Justice Rabi Umar, the Chief Judge of the state who was represented by Justice Alıyu Usman, conducted the swearing in exercise for the corps members.
