The Bauchi State Government has announced plans to introduce the Measles-Rubella vaccine on October 18, 2025, targeting children and adolescents aged 9 months to 14 years across the state.

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, during the commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Adolescent Health Week held on Monday in Bauchi.

Dr. Dambam, who was represented by the Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCDA), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed, emphasized that investing in adolescent health is crucial for the state’s economic development and overall prosperity.

He explained that the Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, and other development partners, has launched several initiatives aimed at improving adolescent health and promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.

The commissioner called on stakeholders to work collectively to create an environment that supports adolescents’ health, education, and empowerment. He also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to encourage young people to take advantage of the forthcoming Measles-Rubella vaccination exercise.

Dr. Dambam further highlighted government efforts to address violence against adolescents, including the implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, and the establishment of gender desks and safe spaces across the state.

Also speaking, the Director of Primary Healthcare, Dr. Ahmed Jibrin, underscored the importance of youth empowerment and urged young people to strive for excellence in all aspects of life. He cited the success story of the ECS, a group of young individuals from Bauchi who emerged as global winners in an English competition held in Europe.

Our correspondent reports that the commemoration was aimed at raising awareness about adolescent health issues and promoting healthy lifestyles among young people in Bauchi State.

Highlights of the event included a street awareness walk, which started from Bakin Kura through Tashan Babiye and Makera to the Bauchi Central Market, followed by group photographs and interactive sessions.

The theme of this year’s event was “Thriving Inside and Out: Strengthening Physical and Mental Health.”
