Aliko Dangote College of Nursing clinches 2025 Bauchi unity cup

The Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Science, Bauchi, has emerged winner of the 2025 Usman Ya’u Unity Cup after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over the College of Nursing and Midwifery of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in the highly anticipated final match.

The week-long football tournament brought together eight tertiary institutions from across Bauchi State, including Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi State College of Agriculture.

Others are Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Adamu Jumba College of Education Kangere, and Sa’adu Zungur University, among others. The event aimed to foster unity and friendship among students through sportsmanship.

Speaking during the closing ceremony held at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi on Monday, the tournament’s organizer and sports entrepreneur, Mr. Usman Ya’u, expressed satisfaction with the success of the competition. 

He described the event as a milestone in promoting harmony among students of diverse institutions.

Ya’u further announced that the Unity Cup would become an annual competition, adding that he would sponsor the tuition fees of three students from Federal Polytechnic Bauchi in recognition of their outstanding entertainment performances during the tournament. 

“The goal of this competition has been achieved by bringing students together in the spirit of unity and fair play,” he said.

The champions of the tournament, Aliko Dangote College of Nursing Science, received a trophy, medals for players and coaching staff, and a cash prize of N250,000, while the runners-up, College of Nursing and Midwifery ATBUTH, were rewarded with medals and N150,000.

Anas Adam Umar, chairman of the organizing committee, emphasized the importance of sports in strengthening relationships and steering young people away from social vices. He lauded the participants for displaying discipline and teamwork throughout the competition.

Dr. Aminu Shehu, coach of the winning team, commended the initiative, describing it as a laudable step toward encouraging student participation in extracurricular activities. 

One of the scholarship beneficiaries, Muhammad Aliyu from the Mass Communication Department of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, expressed gratitude to Mr. Ya’u for his generosity, pledging to make good use of the opportunity.
