NGOs push for inclusion of sexual reproductive health, rights in school

By Rauf Oyewole

Child is Gold Foundation (CIGF) in partnership with other development organisations have advocated for inclusion of sexual reproductive health and rights in education curriculum and sensitisation of school administrators.

Speaking during a roundtable discussion in Bauchi on Wednesday, the Executive Director of CIGF, Barrister Elizabeth George, at the programme tagged "Strengthened Teacher's training and Education on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights in Bauchi State", she said that sexual reproductive health should be taught in class to prevent unholy practices.

“We need to teach our children the proper sexual reproductive health for them to be able to educate their children. With this, we will prevent a lot of dangerous practices among our adolescent population.

“We can achieve this with all the stakeholders coming together to enlighten them and implement policies to remove some harmful traditional norms.

“Plan International, Rensy Dansa Safe Foundation, FAWOYDI and Child Is Gold Foundation are already championing this. We are glad that SUBEB is giving all the necessary support, our religious, traditional leaders and school administrators are ready. We want this to be included in our school curriculum,” she said.

She added that the stakeholders were working towards a future where Sexual Reproductive Health and Right is a priority in Bauchi's educational system.
