Darazo Calls On Nigeria’s Former Leaders To Support Tinubu’s Peace Agenda

By Khalid Idris Doya

Prominent loyalist of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Khamis Musa Darazo, has appealed to some of Nigeria's most respected elder statesmen to unite in support of the President Bola Tinubu Tinubu's efforts to promote peace and stability across the country.

Darazo specifically called on Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar to rally behind President Tinubu in the collective quest to secure lasting peace in Nigeria.

Darazo while speaking with journalists in Bauchi on Thursday described the elder statesmen as "Guardians of Nigeria's history, unity and statecraft," noting that their influence and counsel have always been crucial during periods of national uncertainty.

According to Darazo, the country is at a critical moment that requires the wisdom and guidance of experienced leaders.

"At this defining moment in our nation's journey, I call on TY Danjuma, Obasanjo, IBB, Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar to join hands with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Their wisdom and guidance are crucial in supporting ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace across Nigeria," he said.

Darazo noted that President Tinubu has placed security and peace-building at the forefront of his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda. However, he stressed that achieving lasting stability requires a united leadership front that combines the experience of past leaders with the vision of the current administration.

He further observed that each of the elder statesmen has played significant roles in preserving Nigeria's unity at different points in the nation's history, adding that their collective voice would carry strong moral authority and boost public confidence in the government's security initiatives.

"These elders have steered Nigeria through difficult moments before. Their support today will send a strong message of unity to Nigerians and encourage cooperation among communities, security agencies and political actors," he added.

Darazo emphasised that peace cannot be achieved by government alone but through collaboration, reconciliation and a shared national purpose. He therefore urged leaders across the country past and present to rise above political, regional and personal differences in the interest of national unity.

He emphasised the need for collective responsibility in nation-building. "Nigeria needs every hand on deck. Supporting President Tinubu's peace agenda is supporting the nation. If our elders stand together, Nigeria will stand stronger," Darazo said.
