His Royal Majesty, Marcus Kokko Yake, the Gung Zaar of Zaar Chiefdom, has called on Nigerians to become ambassadors of peace in their homes and communities, saying no nation can develop without it.
Speaking at the 9th Interfaith Conference held at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi on Thursday, the monarch said peace was the foundation for progress in families and the country at large.
The event was organized by the Interfaith Dialogue Forum For Peace (IDFP) in Collaboration with International Dialogue Center and the Bauchi state government.
“We are gathered here not just to give awards, but to celebrate a value that is more precious than gold,” he said, at the conference themed "Non-violent Elections: The Role of Faith and Traditional Leaders in Nigeria".
“Without peace, there can be no development. Without peace, there can be no progress in our families, communities, and our nation.” The Monarch added.
Defining peace beyond the absence of conflict, the Gung Zaar told the packed hall:
“Peace is not just the absence of war. It is the presence of justice, understanding, tolerance, and love for one another.”
The monarch also welcomed the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who holds the traditional title of Ghbzhi Zaar of Zaar Chiefdom, and his wife, Hajiya Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed.
He praised their unwavering commitment toward ensuring peace and unity, as well as advancing development in the state.
“Your unwavering dedication to promoting peace and development in Bauchi State and beyond serves as an inspiration to us all,” he said.
“Your contribution to interfaith dialogue and community building has made Bauchi a model for peaceful coexistence.” The Gung Zaar added.
He urged participants to take the message beyond the conference hall.
“I urge us to leave this hall today as ambassadors of peace. Let us preach peace in our homes, places of work, worship centres, and our communities,” he charged.
The 9th Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace brought together religious leaders, traditional rulers, government officials, and civil society groups to reaffirm dialogue as a tool for unity in Bauchi State and across Nigeria.
