The Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has pledged the legislature's commitment to financing girl-child education in the state.
He made the pledge on Thursday during a Stakeholders’ Engagement on Girl-Child Educational Financing held in Bauchi, organised by the Malala Fund to gather opinions and recommendations from key stakeholders aimed at attracting additional funding for girl-child education.
Suleiman noted that the legislature has made significant contributions to the education sector through the passage of relevant laws, regular oversight of government projects, and ensuring the proper implementation of budgetary allocations.
He disclosed that the Assembly has enacted laws providing legal protection for children against abuse and violations, while also strengthening security in schools to safeguard students, teachers, and educational infrastructure from attacks and vandalism.
The Speaker further stated that the Bauchi State Government, under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, has renovated schools, supplied learning materials, promoted deserving teachers, and ensured the prompt payment of salaries.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting policies and funding initiatives that will enhance girl-child education and drive meaningful transformation in the sector, enabling more children to access quality education.
The engagement featured a presentation on girl-child education funding delivered by Ibukunolu James. Participants were drawn from the Ministries of Finance and Education, as well as civil society and non-profit organisations, among other stakeholders.
