By Rauf Oyewole

A governorship aspirant under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Bauchi State, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim has defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kashim, the immediate past Secretary to the State Government in a statement on Monday, urged his supporters and the residents of Bauchi State to remain resolute in preparation for the 2027 elections.

He said “We wish to reassure you that while we have moved from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the NigeriaDemocraticCongress (NDC). Our core principles, values, and unwavering commitment to the service of our people remain unchanged.

“This decision was guided solely by our determination to strengthen our platform and enhance our capacity to deliver meaningful development, justice, and prosperity for all. Our resolve to uplift Bauchi State, restore dignity to governance, and create opportunities for every citizen is as firm as ever. We remain focused, steadfast, and fully dedicated to the vision of a better, more inclusive, and progressive Bauchi State.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bauchi State has conducted its state congress, producing a 35-member executive council, with Alhaji Abdullahi Maigari Misau emerging as State Chairman and Prof. Patrick Bogoro as State Secretary.

The congress, held under tight security, was described as peaceful and well-organised by the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Dr. Chindo Mohammed.

He said the exercise was monitored by a three-man delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), alongside personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to ensure transparency and orderliness.

Mohammed noted that the smooth conduct of the congress reflected the party’s growing internal cohesion and commitment to democratic principles.

He added that the process adhered to laid-down guidelines, with delegates participating actively in electing the new leadership.

The newly elected State Chairman, Abdullahi Maigari Misau, expressed appreciation to party members for the confidence reposed in the new executive.

He disclosed that prior to the state congress, the party had successfully conducted ward and local government congresses across the state.

According to him, the successful completion of the three-tier congresses demonstrates that the NDC is expanding and consolidating its presence in Bauchi State.

Misau used the occasion to call on politicians from other parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to join the NDC.

He assured prospective members of a level playing field and equal opportunities within the party.

“We are inviting politicians across party lines to come and be part of the NDC. Our platform guarantees fairness, inclusivity and equal participation for all,” he said.

The development signals the party’s renewed drive to strengthen its structure and position itself as a viable political force in the state ahead of future elections.
