Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has formally declared to contest for the governorship position in Bauchi State, pledging robust business environment and transparency in governance.
Tuggar had earlier resigned from the Bola Tinubu cabinet as directed by the President. The ex-minister is an old aspirant in the Bauchi governorship contest. He had in 2011 emerged the candidate of the CPC where he lost to Governor Isa Yuguda.
He was a member of the House of Representatives, representing Gamawa Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). Tuggar was an ambassador to Germany in Muhammadu Buhari administration before his appointment as foreign affairs minister by President Tinubu.
Speaking on Saturday while addressing his supporters and party loyalists, Tuggar said that he has stepped forward to lead the state having identified ten major areas to focus on to move the state forward.
He said that his government would be driven by people's contributions and stakeholders, youth empowerment, women investment and trade development in both rural and urban areas.
Tuggar is the third aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to declare interest. Bala Wunti and Senator Shehu Buba had earlier announced their intentions.
There has been an uneasy calm within the APC aspirants on whether the consensus arrangement would work out or the party will head to direct primary.
Tuggar who is from Gamawa, Bauchi North will be facing other aspirants like Buba, Wunti and others who are yet to officially declare interest. But supporters of Health Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, Nura Manu Soro and others have flooded the towns with their campaign posters.
