Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has called on the newly elected local government chairmen to maintain close cooperation with the state government despite the autonomy of the councils.
Mohammed made the call during the swearing in of 20 newly elected chairmen, commissioner and special assistants Tuesday in Bauchi said effective collaboration between the two levels of government was essential to achieving sustainable development and improving the welfare of residents at the grassroots.
The governor, while setting expectations for the new local government administration, said the councils must operate with discipline, competence and accountability.
He warned against corruption, incompetence and disloyalty, stressing that the administration would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its development agenda.
Mohammed said the state government would continue to value experienced personnel whose knowledge could contribute to the success of the administration, while expecting all officials to work as a team.
He also identified security as a major priority, saying no meaningful development could be achieved in an environment where the safety of citizens and communities was threatened.
According to him, the administration’s investment in roads, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply was aimed at creating the necessary conditions for economic growth and improving living standards.
He said the government had completed more than 800 kilometres of roads as part of its broader 5,000-kilometre target, in addition to over 1,000 kilometres of urban roads.
The governor said rural connectivity had also received attention through road projects designed to link farming communities with markets.
He further disclosed that the administration had distributed agricultural machinery and inputs to farmers and trained thousands of youths in modern farming, with financial support provided to enable them to establish businesses.
Mohammed said the state had also constructed and upgraded healthcare facilities, renovated schools and provided more than 1,100 solar-powered boreholes across the state.
He urged the new chairmen to see their election as a mandate to serve the people and complement the state government’s efforts at the grassroots.
