SAZU Admits 4,024 New Students, Warns Against Anti-Social Vices

Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau (SAZU), Bauchi State, has matriculated 4,024 new students into various degree programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Speaking during the university’s 13th matriculation ceremony on Wednesday at the Yuli Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Bala Maaji Abdulhamid, disclosed that the university offered admission to 4,024 candidates out of 9,378 applicants shortlisted for consideration.

According to her, of the newly registered students, 1,434 are females while 2,590 are males.

Prof. Tahir reaffirmed the university’s zero-tolerance policy on anti-social vices, listing prohibited behaviours such as cultism, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, sorting, and truancy.

“Our duty as parents and teachers is not only to give you knowledge but also to help shape your character so that you become responsible citizens. Let it be made clear that the University will not hesitate to take necessary disciplinary measures against any non-conformist,” she warned.

She also advised students to remain security-conscious and report suspicious activities to the university’s security unit and the Student Affairs Division.

The Vice-Chancellor reminded the new students that the matriculation oath signifies their acceptance to abide by the laws, statutes, ordinances, and regulations of the university as contained in the students’ handbook.

Prof. Tahir congratulated the matriculating students and encouraged them to take advantage of the available academic facilities. She assured them that the university management is committed to supporting their academic and welfare needs through the relevant departments and units.

She commended the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his continuous support to the institution, acknowledging his prompt responses to the university’s needs. 

She also appreciated Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) for constructing a modern ICT Centre at the Gadau main campus, now fully in use.

Similarly, she applauded TETFund for constructing 48 hostel accommodations at the Yuli campus to support female students.

Prof. Tahir called on the host community to strengthen security cooperation, noting that the university experienced several security challenges in the previous session. She emphasized the economic contributions of students to the community and urged leaders to help protect them.

She further encouraged both academic and non-academic staff to remain committed and continue their collaborative efforts toward improving the institution.

A breakdown of the admissions shows that the 4,024 students were distributed across various faculties including Faculty of Agriculture - 335, Faculty of Arts - 205, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences - 507, Faculty of Education -  461, Faculty of Law - 59, Faculty of Management Sciences - 587, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences -  58, Faculty of Science – 935 and Faculty of Social Sciences - 877.

Prof. Tahir concluded by assuring parents that the university remains committed to safeguarding their wards and maintaining academic integrity.
