Christian Youths Warn EFCC Against Linking Gov. Bala Mohammed to Terrorism Financing

By Monday Danladi

The Christian Youths Initiative for Peace (CYIFP), Bauchi State Chapter, has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other federal agencies against linking Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, to alleged terrorism financing.

The group issued the warning on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the E4 Resort Events Centre in Bauchi, where it described the allegation as false, malicious and politically motivated.

Led by its Chairman, Philip Yohanna, and Secretary, Comrade Luka Musa Jr., the group said it convened the press conference to respond to claims reportedly made on January 1, 2026, accusing Governor Mohammed of financing terrorism.

“We categorically state that Governor Bala Mohammed is not a financier of terrorism,” the group declared.

CYIFP said the allegation was inconsistent with what it described as the governor’s track record in promoting peace, security and interfaith harmony in Bauchi State. It noted that Bauchi remains one of the most peaceful states in northern Nigeria despite widespread insecurity in other parts of the region.

According to the group, Governor Mohammed has consistently demonstrated commitment to religious tolerance, support for Christian institutions and events, respect for human rights, and fairness in governance.

“We consider these claims baseless, malicious and an affront to the truth, as well as to the image of Bauchi State,” the statement read.

The group further alleged that the accusation was a form of political persecution and an orchestrated attempt by “enemies of Bauchi State” to destabilise the state for political advantage.

CYIFP also accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of allegedly championing what it described as a political vendetta against the governor, in collaboration with unnamed individuals from Bauchi State. It claimed the move was aimed at tarnishing the image of both the governor and the state.

As an organisation committed to peace and unity, the group said it strongly condemned any narrative capable of disrupting the relative peace currently enjoyed in Bauchi State.

“We debunk attempts to drag the hard-earned reputation of Governor Bala Mohammed into the mud, particularly given his standing as a detribalised, religiously tolerant leader with high integrity,” the group said.

CYIFP reaffirmed its support for the governor, acknowledging his efforts in promoting unity and development across the state, and urged the public to disregard what it described as false and misleading claims.

The group further declared that Christians in Bauchi State feel protected under Governor Mohammed’s administration, describing him as the most Christian-friendly governor since the creation of the state in 2019.

“We urge those engaging in dirty politics to place the unity and progress of Bauchi State above personal interests and embrace peace rather than confrontation,” the statement added.

The group concluded by expressing its “unwavering loyalty” to Governor Mohammed, stating that his actions and policies do not align with terrorism or its financing.

Those present at the press conference included Philip Yohanna, Arc. Samson Rufai Sabo, Hon. Nuhu Sabo, Comrade Luka Musa Jr., Commander Andrew, Helen Pascal, Kingsley Okechukwu, Madala Ishaya, Andrew Vamcy, Kayode Matthew, Mandi Daniel, Alhamdu Samson Kamashi, Hajara Adamu, Mary Bitrus and Madaki Moses.
