The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bauchi state says no fewer than 50 people have lost their lives in road accidents across the state in the last three months.
Mr Apaji Boyi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Wednesday.
He said the accidents which occurred in the months of October, November and December of the year 2025, left 468 people injured and 193 others unscathed in the process.
According to him, the figure was as a result of 76 reported cases of auto crashes that took place within the period under review.
“In October, 2025, we had a total of 10 road traffic crashes which involved 77 people and 58 were seriously injured while 8 people lost their lives to the crash.
“In November, we had 25 auto crashes which involved 201 people and 14 people died while 144 others were injured.
“28 people lost their lives while 266 others were seriously injured in 41 road traffic crashes that involved 433 people in the month of December, 2025,” he said.
Boyi explained that some of the major causes of those crashes were speeding, wrongful overtaking, driver fatigue, overloading of persons, conveyance of persons in haulage vehicles and traveling with fuel in plastic containers.
While emphasising that drivers’ behaviour was a fundamental element in determining safety on highways, he added that some road traffic infringements by drivers also responsible for road crashes included speed limit violations.
These infringements, he said, included failure to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations, speed limit violations, intake of drugs, seat belt violations as well as using of phones while driving, amongst others.
He acknowledged that the Federal government’s support had been responsible for the modest achievement of the FRSC over the years and appreciated the government for its advisory oversight.
The sector commander further urged motorists to be cautious and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, avoid overloading, speeding, wrongful overtaking and also the use of cell phones while driving.
He further advised that drivers must ensure their vehicles were in good condition before embarking on journeys.
The FRSC boss also said that the FRSC in Bauchi state would not relent in his sensitisation of motorists about the traffic rules, signs and regulations in the state.
