The Governor of Taraba State, Kefas Agbu has announced that he would leave the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) next Wednesday.
Speaking during a visit to the Jolly Nyame Stadium on Saturday, the venue of his formal defection to the APC, Governor Agbu Kefas said that his move to join the APC is connected to improving the lives of Taraba residents, not a personal desire.
“I will leave the PDP for the APC officially on the 19th of November,” he said. “This move is about the future of the Taraba people, and many people will attend the ceremony.”
The governor was among those who did not attend the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on Saturday, where new party leaders were elected. Others absent included Rivers State Governor Fubara and Osun State Governor Adeleke.
If the governor leaves the party, this will further reduce the number of PDP-controlled states to seven, following the recent defections of the Bayelsa, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Delta governors to the ruling APC under President Tinubu.
