North-East stakeholders endorse Umar Lauya sole candidate for NYCN National President

The North East stakeholders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), have unanimously endorsed Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa as the sole candidate for the office of National President in the forthcoming NYCN National Congress 2025.

The stakeholders comprise of serving State Chairmen, representatives of Voluntary Youths Organizations (VYOs), the Youths Parliament, uniform organizations, members of the National Transition Committee (NTC), the Electoral Committee (ELECO), the Congress Planning Committee (CPC), the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), the National Advisory Committee, alongside former State Chairmen and past National Officers. 

The historic endorsement was reached during a strategic engagement held on Monday, 15th September 2025, at the Bauchi State Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Banquet Hall, Bauchi, under the chairmanship of the Bauchi State Deputy Peace Corps Commandant. 

The engagement harmonized the North East position ahead of the NYCN elective congress scheduled for 7th October 2025 in Abuja.

The resolution was further strengthened by the endorsement of the Governor of Bauchi State, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who recognized Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa as a leader of proven capacity, competence, and integrity worthy of championing the aspirations of Nigerian youths at the national level.

At the end of the meeting, the stakeholders applauded the youths-oriented programmes and interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, being vigorously pursued by the Minister of Youths Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande Emmanuel.

The engagement also reaffirmed support for the National Management Committee meeting held on 7th August 2025 in Abuja.

The North East praised the leadership of Southern Nigeria NYCN stakeholders for their spirit of understanding, noting that the NYCN presidency has been zoned to the Northern region ahead of the elective congress.

The zone unanimously adopted the 2012 NYCN Constitution as the operational framework to guide the forthcoming congress.

The engagement endorsed the adoption of a single four-year tenure for all national executive offices, to promote accountability, inclusivity, and smooth leadership succession.

Following wide-ranging consultations, the zone unanimously endorsed Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa as its consensus candidate for the position of National President in the 2025 elective congress.

In his response, Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa, former Chairman of NYCN Bauchi State, expressed deep gratitude to the stakeholders and reaffirmed his commitment to building an inclusive, united, and progressive Council. 

He pledged to prioritize youths empowerment, innovation, and participatory leadership that reflect the aspirations of Nigerian youths across all six geopolitical zones.

Stakeholders emphasized that their collective support is rooted in Hon. Umar Lauya Hardawa's track record of dedication to youth development, his leadership credentials, and his proven ability to foster unity among diverse youth constituencies. 

This collective decision positions him as the consensus flagbearer from the North East zone ahead of the NYCN National Congress 2025.

The decision was made in the presence and with the consent of the following signatories: Alh. Abubakar Billy Tafawa Balewa - Bauchi and Five State NYCN Chairmen including Hamisu Dass - Bauchi, Murtala Garba, former NYCN President, Solomon Elisha - Taraba, Yero Goni - Gombe, Ubale Garba - Gombe, Salman Jimeta, Adamawa, Goni Bukar - Borno and Abdulmumini Liman - SSA to Mai Mala Buni on Youths and Students Matters.
