Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged beneficiaries of the Bauchi State FGN/AfDB Inclusive Basic Service Delivery and Livelihood Empowerment Integrated Programme (IBSDLEIP) to be prudent and utilise the opportunity presented by multi-million projects.
Mohammed who was speaking at the official presentation of starter packs to the 800 youth and women on Saturday, said that his government would be glad to see the multiplication of the business, urging them to desist from selling off the goods.
The Governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Aminu Gamawa, noted that his administration has been prioritising youth and women empowerment and would continue to support small businesses to grow.
Mohammed explained that the 800 beneficiaries were selected across the 20 local council areas. Some of the trade according to the Governor include; solar installation, aluminium fabrication, carpentry, tailoring, catering, hairdressing, shoemaking, phone repair among others.
He directed the state ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to patronise indigenous artisans to boost the state economy.
Also, the Programme Coordinator, Mr. Garba Babaji Magaji appreciated the African Development Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria for their critical role in providing resources and support, expertise, and consistent guidance in the implementation of the programme.
He said that over the past weeks and months, the government has been preparing for selection of beneficiaries based on the AfDB's qualification criteria, through verification and validation at the LGA and community levels, to designing training modules, and ensuring proper delivery of the training.
“This was only possible as a result of teamwork, patience, and a shared sense of purpose across many levels. In this regard, I want to recognize and appreciate the important role played by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment's Skills Upgrading and Vocational Training Center, Bauchi, in providing intensive certified training in 22 trades and vocations to the 800 beneficiaries present here today,” he said.
