A Bauchi based Civil Society Organization (CSO), Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD), has been commended for being part of the improved service delivery in the healthcare sector.
The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed made the commendation while speaking during the handing over of family planning commodities by the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA).
According to him, members of the J4PD have demonstrated commitment to fair and objective reportage of health issues leading to improved healthcare services delivery.
He particularly commended members of J4PD for budget monitoring and tracking which has led to improved budget allocation releases, positively impacting the health sector.
According to him, "I want to commend our Media partners, members of the Journalists for Public Health and Development Initiative (J4PD), for what they are doing to assist us."
He added that, "They are always reporting health activities, monitoring and tracking the budget as it affects the health sector. This has really impacted positively on the performance of the sector in recent times."
The EC added that J4PD members were part of the advocacy for the release of the fund for the purchase of the family planning commodities through their various positive reports.
Rilwanu Mohammed further stated that, through the various reports by the media, people of the State have come to understand issues of family planning and have keyed into it.
According to him, uptake of family planning commodities across the State has increased due to the awareness created in the media stressing that, "In all the facilities, the demand for the commodities is very high. Even this supply will not be enough."
He therefore urged members of the J4PD to intensify their reportage of the health issues as well as the advocacy so that more funds will be allocated to the sector by the government.
