As part of efforts to formalize local mining activities in Bauchi State, inline with Federal Government Laws, Bauchi State Ministry of Natural Resources Development, in collaboration with Bladira Global Consulting Firm Limited on Tuesday trained 114 youth as enumerators that would be deployed across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State for data capture of mining activities.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony of the training, Bauchi State Commissioner of Natural Resources Development Muhammad Maiwada Bello said the initiative seeks to streamline the mining sector, promote economic growth, and ensure environmental sustainability.
Bello said that after the training, the enumerators will gather data of all informal miners to create a comprehensive database with a view to having accurate information regarding all mining activities in the State
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the State Government under Governor Bala Mohammed in bring informal miners into the formal sector, ensuring they operate within the legal framework and adhere to environmental and safety standards.
According to the Commissioner, such data based will enable the Government to make informed decisions on how to boost revenue generation through taxes and royalties.
While appreciating Governor Bala Mohammed for creating enabling environment for mining activities in the State through infrastructural development like roads, that linked mining communities with the urban centres, Commissioner Bello appealed to the enumerators to absorb every knowledge and pay rapt attention to what the consultant will impart on them regarding the technology driven data collection.
Speaking on the objective of the training, the lead consultant of Bladira Dr. Elizabeth Sabaatu Danladi said the training is aimed equip participants with the skills to capture accurate data on the field using technology driven tools.
The Consultant, while commending Bauchi State Government for taking the bold step in the mining sector of the State, said that the knowledge the youth will acquire would be useful to them not just for the enumeration exercise but also in other sectors of the sector.
According to her, the training is expected to positively transform the mining sector by enhancing transparency, accountability, and the overall formalisation process, which are vital for the long-term development of the state.
There were goodwill messages from key stakeholders that included Mining Associations, Security Agencies and Management Staff of the State Ministry of Natural Resources Development.
Our correspondent reports that out of the 114 youth trained, 92 will serve as enumerators while the remaining 22 will be supervising the enumerators across all the mining sites in the state.
