NGO trains 400 students on digital rights in Bauchi

Non Governmental organizations NGOs The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation (NKF), has trained 400 students on digital rights across six selected secondary schools in Bauchi metropolis.

Mr. Mujahid Ibrahim, CITAD’s Program Lead in Bauchi, disclosed this at the training session of the four-week training program on Thursday. 

He said is a step toward promoting digital literacy and safe internet practices among young learners,

Ibrahim highlighted the growing importance of equipping students with digital awareness skills, especially in today’s increasingly connected world.

“The program is not just about teaching students how to use the internet.

“It’s about helping them understand their rights, responsibilities, and safety as digital citizens. 

“We’re particularly proud of our inclusive approach, ensuring students with disabilities are not left behind,”Ibrahim said. 

According to him, the initiative, which is still ongoing, is designed to build students’ capacity in digital rights, cybersecurity awareness, data privacy, and responsible online behavior.

“Through interactive discussions and practical sessions, students are being taught how to recognize online threats such as cyberbullying, hacking, and identity theft and how to protect themselves.

“Supported by the Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, the program has received commendation as a timely intervention to prepare students for the realities of the 21st-century digital environment,” he said.

The participating schools include Government Army Barracks (Senior and Junior Schools), Government Day Secondary School Ƙofar Idi, Success International School Wuntin Dada,

Others are City Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Government Secondary School Bakari Dukku, and Sa’adu Zungur Government Day Secondary School.

Responding, Miss Rasheeda Ahmed, a student at Sa’adu Zungur, noted the importance of understanding digital privacy and ethics. Similarly, 

Master Usman Shehu of Ƙofar Idi expressed gratitude: “I’ve learned so much especially how to protect my personal data online.
