The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Bauchi State Government, has distributed food items to vulnerable groups in the state as part of its 2026 Ramadan palliative programme.
The items distributed include 2,400 bags of 25kg rice, 300 cartons of cooking oil, and 500 bags of sugar. An additional 1,200 cartons of spaghetti are expected to be distributed to the same beneficiaries upon arrival.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the International Conference Centre, Bauchi, on Saturday, the Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed, said the initiative is about extending hope and strengthening resilience, particularly at a time when many families are grappling with economic hardship.
"Through this collaboration, we are distributing 2,400 bags of 25kg rice, 300 cartons of cooking oil, and 500 bags of sugar, while awaiting the arrival of 1,200 cartons of spaghetti for further distribution," she stated.
She noted that the items represent more than numbers. "They symbolise meals on tables, relief for struggling mothers, comfort for widows, and reassurance to families that they are not forgotten," she added.
In the spirit of Ramadan, a season of sacrifice, generosity, and compassion, she also announced that the Bauchi State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, is distributing additional palliatives.
These include 250 bags of rice, 500 bags of maize, 50 bags of guinea corn, 50 bags of millet, and 10 bags of sugar.
She described the gesture as a reflection of the government's commitment to easing hardship and ensuring that vulnerable households observe the holy month with dignity and peace of mind.
Hajiya Aishatu Bala Mohammed commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for its vision and dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly women and vulnerable groups. She also praised the North East Development Commission for its sustained interventions in rebuilding and strengthening communities across the North-East.
"Your partnership reinforces our shared commitment to inclusive development," she said.
