By Armstrong Allahmagani

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has sacked the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adamu Sambo, of his appointment.

The Governor made the announcement while presiding over the over the swearing in of three Commissioners and the Chief Security Adviser on Monday which took place before the commencement of the State Executive Council at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Bauchi.

Those sworn in are: Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko - Bauchi LGA; Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam - Dambam LGA, Engr. Mohammed Abdulkadir - Itas Gadau LGA and a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Ahmed Abdulrahman - Kirfi LGA.

The Oaths of Office and Allegiance were administered on them by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar, who was represented by Justice Umar Faruk Sarki.

Speaking shortly after the new appointees were sworn in, the Governor in a brief speech said that Dr. Sani Dambam will replace the former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adamu Sambo, who was relieved of his appointment.

He said that Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko was appointed Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development to replace Hajara Gidado who was elected as Chairman, Itas Gadau Local Government Council.

According to him, Engr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, will go to the Ministry for Commerce to fill the vacuum created after the resignation of Mahmood Babamaji who was elected Chairman, Bauchi Local Government Council; while Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman was appointed the Chief Security Adviser, to fill the vacancy created after the then Special Adviser on Security, Ahmed Chiroma, was sacked on 16th July, 2024.

The Governor said: "We have also dropped one of the Commissioners, the former Commissioner for Health because we have to reposition ourselves first, to reduce the cost of governance, shrink the establishment of government as well as implement the Supreme Court's judgement on Local Governments, as we will no longer have a Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

"But remember with respect, the late Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Jalam, so we have to fill the vacant seat from that local government too.

"Our former Commissioner for Women Affairs has also resigned to become Chairman of her local government. Dr. Sani Mohammed Dambam, naturally, is going to the Ministry for Health and that is why we had to drop the Commissioner not because he failed or created any error or is found wanting, but because we just have to take a leadership decision.

"Zainab Baban Takko will go to the Ministry for Women Affairs, Engr. Mohammed Abdulkadir, will go to the Ministry for Commerce. And we have Dr. Ahmed Abdulrahman who is the Chief Security Adviser, he will fill the vacancy of that office," the Governor said.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of the newly sworn in Commissioners, Zainab Baban Takko, expressed gratitude to the Governor for the appointment noting that it is an opportunity for them to contribute their wealth of experience towards the development of Bauchi State.

She assured the Governor they would be diligent in carrying out their mandates and promised to be loyal to the Governor and his administration.
