Eid-el-Maulud: Mohammed tasked Muslims on peace, honesty, humility

By Rauf Oyewole

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed in his goodwill message on the occasion of this year's Eid-el-Maulud has tasked the Muslims faithful to imbibe the teaching of the Prophet.

Mohammed, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mukhtar Gidado on Sunday stated that “It is to the glory of Allah that we are alive to witness this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration when we commemorate the birth of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him).

“As we celebrate the Eid-el-Maulud, we should remember that the Holy Prophet had during his lifetime preached peace, honesty, patience, generosity, humility, sincerity, love for one another and fear of God. It is these virtues that people, irrespective of their religious inclinations, are enjoined to imbibe and practice.”

The Governor said that Eid-el-Maulud should be used for sober reflection and self-evaluation to know how well the people related with their creator and fellow human beings during the last one year and make amends where necessary. Mohammed, at a time like this, urged all Muslims to pray for peace and tasked the residents of the State to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another in spite of their ethnic, religious or political differences.

“We should use the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud to pray for sustained peace in our State and for peace to be restored to States that currently face security challenges,” he said.

He said as a responsive and responsible Government, he was worried about the current economic hardship that has made life extremely difficult for Nigerians. While assuring the commitment of his Government to mitigate the hardship, he appealed to the people to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Maulud to pray for the intervention of Allah to bring an end to the calamity.

“I also appeal to you to pray to Allah to protect our State from the flood disaster that has ravaged some parts of the country, especially Borno State. I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of the affected States, especially victims of the flood disaster.

“Let me use this occasion to reiterate the irrevocable commitment of the Government to the maintenance of law and order. Government would, in collaboration with security agencies, continue to take all measures to ensure the safety of lives and property of people in the State.

“I would therefore like to appeal for your continued support and cooperation in order to sustain and improve on the existing peaceful atmosphere in the State. Government would not condone any act that is capable of causing rancour and disorder. Any person or group of persons found to be involved in such acts under any guise will be dealt with according to the law,” according to the Governor.
