Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate in Bauchi State for the 2027 election, has led party stalwarts and supporters in the formal flag-off of campaigns for the party's candidates contesting the September 19 State Assembly bye-elections in Disina and Sakwa constituencies.
The campaign activities were held in Disina District of Shira local government area and Sakwa District of Zaki local government area, where Shehu Buba presented the party's candidates to members, supporters and residents.
He also called for peaceful, issue-based and credible elections, urging political actors to shun inflammatory rhetoric, violence and intimidation.
In Disina, Senator Shehu Buba was accompanied by a former member of the House of Representatives and PRP candidate for Shira/Giade Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Kani Faggo, and the party’s candidate for Shira State Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Samaila Isah.
The party leaders jointly presented Alhaji Rilwanu Galadiman Disina as the PRP candidate for the forthcoming bye-election.
Addressing supporters, Shehu Buba urged political leaders and their supporters to conduct themselves with civility and responsibility throughout the campaign period.
He expressed concern over the use of hateful and inappropriate language by some public figures, stressing that political leaders had a responsibility to set positive examples, particularly for younger generations.
The senator said political competition should focus on ideas, policies, leadership qualities and service to the people rather than personal attacks, inflammatory statements or actions capable of creating tension in communities.
At Sakwa District in Zaki LGA, Shehu Buba presented Hon. Abubakar Baba Kafin Larabawa as the PRP candidate for the constituency.
He described him as an experienced politician with relevant leadership experience and a commitment to public service.
The PRP governorship candidate also urged voters and party supporters to support Alhaji Sabo Babaji Katagum, the party’s candidate for Zaki Federal Constituency, and Comrade Isah Mohammed, its candidate for Katagum State Constituency.
Shehu Buba later visited the District Head of Disina, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mustapha, and the District Head of Sakwa, Alhaji Hamisu Dariya, where he sought their support for the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.
During the visits, he appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to continue educating their subjects, especially youths, on the importance of peaceful participation in the democratic process.
He urged youths to reject thuggery, violence, intimidation and other social vices capable of undermining peace and stability in their communities.
Shehu Buba said the PRP remained committed to democratic participation, peaceful political engagement and the protection of citizens’ rights to freely choose their representatives.
He also called on all political actors to respect the electoral process and allow voters to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
The campaign events were attended by the PRP State Chairman and members of the State Executive Committee, the party’s Deputy Governorship Candidate, Rt. Hon. Tijjani Mohammed Aliyu, as well as PRP candidates and supporters from Giade, Jama’are, Katagum and Itas/Gadau constituencies.
Women and youth groups from across the state also participated in the activities.
Senator Shehu Buba thanked party members, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, women, youths and other supporters for their participation, urging them to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to the democratic process throughout the election period.
