Ahead of the September 19, 2026 legislative bye-elections, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has commenced its grassroots mobilisation campaign in the Sakwa State Constituency of Zaki local government area of Bauchi State.
The campaign flag-off, held in Sakuwa town on Monday, attracted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and residents who gathered to demonstrate their support for the party ahead of the polls.
Speaking at the rally, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, urged voters in the constituency to support the APM candidates, saying their victory would help sustain ongoing infrastructure and community development initiatives across the state.
Governor Mohammed said his administration had implemented various projects and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and socio-economic conditions of residents.
He argued that continued progress required effective representation at the grassroots, urging the electorate to consider the impact of government policies and projects on their communities rather than voting based solely on political sentiments.
The governor therefore called on voters to support candidates who, according to him, would work with the government to consolidate existing development efforts and attract more projects to their constituencies.
Also speaking, the director-general of the APM campaign organisation, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, urged party supporters to remain united and vigilant throughout the electioneering period.
Akuyam stressed the importance of a high voter turnout on election day, charging party faithful to intensify mobilisation across the wards and polling units in the constituency.
He urged supporters to take the party's message of continuity and development to the grassroots and ensure that eligible voters were adequately mobilised to exercise their franchise.
The APM's candidate, Hon. Yakubu Adamu, while addressing the gathering, appealed to the electorate to entrust him with their mandate, promising to provide purposeful representation focused on the needs and aspirations of the people.
He pledged to make the interests of constituents the priority of his engagement if elected.
Following the campaign flag-off in Sakuwa, the APM campaign team moved to Disina in Shira Local Government Area, where it held another mobilisation rally ahead of the simultaneous state assembly bye-election.
The September 19 bye-elections are expected to fill legislative vacancies in the Sakwa and Disina state constituencies, with the contests serving as an important test of the strength and grassroots support of the participating political parties in Bauchi State.
Recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for the conduct of bye-elections into the Sakwa State Constituency of Zaki Local Government Area and Disina State Constituency of Shira LGA of Bauchi State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Bauchi State, Umar Ibrahim, said the Sakwa State Constituency comprised five wards Sakwa, Gumal, Murmur North, Murmur South and Alangawar/Kafi/Larabawa, with 100 polling units.
He added that the Disina constituency comprised five wards Andubun, Sanbawal, Beli/Gagidiba, Zubo and Disina with 95 polling units.
Reports that the Sakwa bye-election was necessitated by the death of the member representing the constituency and chairman of the Bauchi State House of Assembly committee on budget and appropriation, Hon. Mohammad Wanzam Zaki, who died on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Similarly, the Disina bye-election followed the resignation of the member representing the constituency and Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Saleh Hodi Jibrin, who resigned to contest the Shira local government chairmanship election held on Monday.
