The Chief Whip of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Musa Wakili Nakwada, has expressed confidence that come 2027, the Allied People’s Movement (APM) will win all elective positions in the state.
Nakwada, who represents Bogoro Local Government Area and is seeking a third term on the APM platform, stated this on Tuesday during an interview with newsmen at his residence in Bauchi.
He attributed his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the party’s prolonged leadership crisis.
“My former party was PDP. We have challenges in the PDP. You cannot rule a party with division, with two leaders. There must be one leader,” he said.
The lawmaker said the decision to join APM followed wide consultations with elders and traditional rulers in Bogoro.
“I did not just wake up one day to say, ‘I have joined APM,’ without consultation. We discussed with them why we are leaving PDP for APM. If your car has a dangerous fault, you do not tell passengers to remain inside. You change the car,” he explained.
Describing APM as a grassroots party popularly known as ‘jam’iyya mai alaman rogo’, Nakwada said the party had established a strong presence across the state.
“The party has gone deep to our grassroots, and we are doing our best to ensure that by 2027, our party will be the winning party everywhere,” he stated.
Dismissing insinuations that APM is a “baby party,” he said victory would be determined by readiness, performance and popularity.
He added that APM recorded strong mobilisation in the last local government elections and was fully prepared for 2027. “Even if they say the election is tomorrow, we are ready. What gives someone a chance? First is God. Second is performance and popularity — doing the right thing that people want,” he said.
Nakwada commended the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed for transforming Bauchi through road construction, improved security and peace.
“There is no administration in Bauchi State that has done what we have done, both at the executive and legislative levels. People are leaving their states to come and stay in Bauchi. Bauchi of yesterday is not the Bauchi of today,” he said.
He noted that Bogoro LGA was also benefiting from the prevailing peace, and pledged that a third term would focus on new projects and youth empowerment.
“If I come for a third tenure, it will be about new things. We must bring additional development to our area, empower our youth and do the needful,” he said.
The Chief Whip stressed inclusive governance as key to his political success, adding that he remains close to his constituents. “I am a Christian, but I build mosques and I build a church. We work everywhere, not considering the section or area. Unlike those who moved to GRA after elections, I am still living with my people,” he said.
