A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Captain Muhammad Bala Jibrin, has resigned his membership of the party, citing alleged injustice and imposition of candidates.
Jibrin announced his resignation in a letter dated August 31, 2026, and addressed to the APC chairman of Nasarawa/Bakin Kasuwa Ward in Azare, Katagum local government srea of the state.
In the letter, he said his resignation and withdrawal of support for the APC would take immediate effect.
He said his decision was largely influenced by what he described as the "Brazen injustice" and imposition of candidates for elective offices without due regard for the views of party members.
"I came to this conclusion due mainly to the brazen injustice and imposition of candidates for elective offices with no regards to party members in Bauchi State. The views of our supporters and constituents are apparently of no consequence,” he stated.
The former aspirant said he arrived at the decision after consultations with his supporters, friends and associates, who, according to him, endorsed his decision to leave the party.
"After an interaction with my supporters, friends, and associates, my decision for exiting the APC was endorsed; that, it is the best option in the circumstances," he added.
Jibrin further described his resignation as "The most honourable move," rather than remaining in a party where he felt members were treated with contempt.
"Accept most kindly, my exit as this is the most honourable move than staying put and rewarded with contempt," he stated.
Jibrin had been a vocal critic of the APC's decision to produce former Bauchi State governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar SAN, popularly known as M.A. Abubakar, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
Before the party’s primary election, Jibrin had opposed the move to choose the former governor, arguing that he was not suitable to represent the party in the election.
He later alleged that Abubakar emerged as the party's candidate through what he described as underhanded manoeuvring and imposition.
Jibrin, during a press conference ahead of the APC primary election, warned APC stakeholders against “short-changing Bauchi people by imposing an unwanted candidate on the electorate.”
According to him, Bauchi residents would resist any move to return Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar came to power, insisting that the former governor had already been "Tried, tested, and rejected" during the 2019 elections.
"They should keep away from any plot of imposing an incompetent, uncaring and ego-driven leader who had the opportunity to serve but failed," he said.
He also cautioned Prof. Ali Pate against supporting the former governor's alleged comeback bid, arguing that such a move would not serve the interest of Bauchi people.
Speaking in telephone with our correspondent on his decision to leave the party, Captain Bala Jibrin said he saw no compelling reason to remain in the APC, which he accused of failing to prioritise the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
Jibrin stated that he would not support either President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar at the polls, alleging that neither had demonstrated a genuine commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people.
He further alleged that the APC leadership had failed to uphold justice and demonstrated little genuine commitment to improving the lives of the masses, accusing party leaders of being driven largely by selfish interests.
He said these concerns informed his decision to resign from the party.
