Building Collapse: Foundation lauds FCTA for elevating member to tackle menace


The Foundation for the Development of Shira community (FODESCO) in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State has commended the Department of Development Control, a key unit under the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for elevating its member to tackle the menace of building collapses.

Engr. Shehu Wakili, the Chairman of the Foundation, made the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday. 

According to him, Engr. Abdullahi Muhammad, one of the members of the Foundation has been appointed as the Head of Structural Integrity Test Division of the Federal Capital Territory Administration Development Control in a letter dated July 23, 2026.

He said the FCTA Development Control explained in the letter that in its effort to prevent building collapses in Abuja and its environs, approved the creation of the Structural Integrity Test Division and appointed Muhammad to head the Division based on his track record of integrity and professionalism in tackling issues of building collapses. 

“He has been mandated to carry out his duties without fear or favour to any consultant or developer, giving urgent attention to all buildings, especially abandoned ones and distressed structures as human lives are at stake.

“We are confident he will help prevent building collapses and set new standards for safety in the FCT,” said the Chairman.

Similarly, the Foundation also congratulated another member, Alhaji. Auwal Ibrahim Sulaiman on his appointment as Head of Administration (HOA) of Shira LGA.

“FODESCO is very proud of you both. You are shining examples to Shira sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora. We wish you tremendous successes and God’s guidance in your new responsibilities”. Wakili stated.
