The Pate Youth Ambassadors Initiatives (PYI), alongside concerned youths of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, has called on former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, to publicly clarify his loyalty to the ruling party following his unsuccessful bid for the APC governorship ticket.
In a statement signed on Friday and made available to journalists, the Director-General of PYI, Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan, urged Tuggar to explain his position over the recent activities of some of his supporters, whom he accused of attacking the APC and its 2027 governorship candidate, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN).
According to Hassan, several individuals believed to be loyal to Tuggar have, in recent weeks, openly criticised the APC on social media and addressed press conferences against the party and its governorship flag bearer.
"As committed members of the APC, we are concerned by these developments and therefore seek clarification from the former Minister," Hassan said. "We want to know whether he remains committed to the APC and its ideals."
He questioned why Tuggar had not publicly cautioned his supporters against actions capable of causing division within the party if he still considered himself a loyal APC member.
"We also urge him to clearly state whether these activities are being carried out with his knowledge or approval," he added.
Hassan also questioned whether Tuggar had turned against the same APC that appointed him as Nigeria's Ambassador to Germany and later entrusted him with the office of Minister of Foreign Affairs simply because he failed to secure the party's governorship ticket.
"If that is not the case, then we respectfully urge him to publicly distance himself from any actions or statements capable of undermining the unity and progress of the party," he said.
The group stressed that the APC governorship primary had ended and that party members should now focus on reconciliation and unity ahead of future elections.
"Any action capable of creating disunity only weakens the APC and reduces its chances of success," Hassan said.
He noted that other governorship aspirants, including Dr. YY Abdullahi, Dr. Nuru Manu Soro, Dr. Bala Wunti, Alhaji Kabiru Baba Maaji and Baba Suleiman, accepted the outcome of the primary election and continued to contribute positively to the party.
PYI also expressed concern over reports linking individuals such as Sanin Mallam and Shehu Barau Ningi—whom the group claimed are not APC members—to Tuggar's political camp.
"If these reports are inaccurate, we urge Ambassador Tuggar to clarify the situation. If they are accurate, we respectfully ask him to explain why individuals outside the APC appear to be playing prominent roles in matters affecting the unity of our party in Bauchi State," Hassan said.
The group called on Tuggar to reassure party members of his commitment to the unity, stability and success of the APC in Bauchi State.
PYI reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity and the electoral success of the APC in Bauchi State and across Nigeria.
